Global Game Jam "GGJ"
Today's blog is about the world's largest game jam event called The Global Game Jam that I am taking part in. The GGJ is a 48 hour development cycle condensed into one weekend starting January 25-27, 2013. The weekend is heavily focused on programming with many other areas remaining to contribute to building a video game. Since I am a composer, I will be focusing on sound design and compositions.
We will be meeting on the 25th of January to watch a short video keynote from leading video game developers, and then be informed of the secret theme that is announced thereafter. All sites worldwide are then challenged to complete games based on the assigned theme within the 48 hour deadline.
This is an interesting tidbit. The 2012 GGJ had 242 locations in 47 countries that created over 2000 games in one weekend to set a Guinness World Record. Pretty exciting! What will the count be this year?
I am looking forward to being a part of this event that will be located at the Polytechnic University campus. In November of 2012, I was honored to be a guest lecturer about Sound Design and Composing Workflow for Video Games at PolyU, and now I am looking forward to being a GGJ team member.
